What is Composite Teak Decking ?

What is Composite Decking ?
Composite decking is a manufactured decking product.  It is made from a combination of recycled plastic and non-virgin wood materials or wood products such as ground sawdust and one of several polymers—polyethylene (low-density or high-density), polyvinyl chloride and polypropylene. Additives that stabilize the plastic and protect it from damaging UV rays are also found in the material.

This is a combination of additives, bonding agents, pigments and stabilisers to create a product that looks just like real wood but that is much lower in maintenance and that is able to stand up to even the toughest of conditions. Typically, it  has a longer lifespan than natural wood decking.

Composite decking, aslo known as Artificial Decking  is incredibly versatile as it is available in a range of “grains” and colours in order to mimic a number of different species of wood.  You can find composite decking that looks just like Jarrah, Merbau, pine. One can also find Blue, Red, White and Black Decking. The brand we represent,  DEK-KING,  As well, the boards themselves are available in a range of widths, so that you can choose the look that you prefer.  All boards are available in standard lengths.

It is a fact that composite decking is low in maintenance. The main reasons for this are : It does not absorb or release moisture, so it does not shrink or swell like real wood teak . As a result of this, composite decking does not crack, warp or separate due to varying weather cycles. Composite decking resists insects, does not need water repellant or stain and can hold up to extreme weather conditions for many years. In addition, builders like to use composite decking because it cuts and installs almost like real wood.

Composite decking gives you the look of a range of different woods but with many added benefits.  By using a composite decking material, you don’t have to worry about resealing the deck like you would with timber. It will not wear or fade with time.  Environmentally speaking, composite decking is very eco friendly.  Mainly because of how it is made and also because by using  deck compsite, no trees are put down to be used for  wood decking.

Something that you may not realise about composite decking is how cost effective it is!  It is on par with or slightly more expensive than natural timber but you will save money over the years as you will not have to go to the expense of sanding back and staining or re-oiling the timber every year, or even every six months.  Don’t forget about the time you’ll save as well – there’s no maintenance apart from a quick clean every now and then!

At last a genuine cost effective alternative to rainforest timber with all of its associated environmental concerns and maintenance issues. Choose DEK-KING Deck composite decking and be comfortable in the knowledge that you have made an economically sound decision that won’t hurt the environment!
